Testimony

Having been blessed with wonderful, loving parents, I was raised in church and saved when I was sixteen. Over the years, as an adult, I heard many pastors say: "Do you know, that you know, that you know?" regarding salvation. I heard things like "What’s your testimony?" and "You should remember the moment your life changed and you were saved," and so on. I started questioning my salvation.

Being very close to my parents, I never wanted to disappoint them. Therefore, I had always been a "good" girl. I never partied, never drank, never smoked, etc., so I did not see a life-changing event when I was saved. Therefore, I did not feel like I had a testimony.

20 years after being saved, a revival came to our church. It scared me to death. Even though I resembled a standard church goer who came to every service, always busy, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was lacking something. Therefore I rededicated my life and was baptized again. Over the years since, I have grown much closer to my Lord.

Let me tell you though, in the past 2 years, while serving on the lead team of the Ladies Refresher, my walk with Christ has grown. I now yearn to be in God’s word and grow in my relationship with Him. I actually long to serve others. I pray daily that someone will see Christ through me.

My biggest struggle continues to be to let go and hand all of my worries over to God, feeling the need to control things myself. My husband tells me I look for things to worry about! I am proud to say, however, that God is helping me deal with that. I am learning to lay my worries down at his feet and walk way. I may not be completely there yet, but making progress daily.

About Debbie

Debbie and her husband, Terry, have been married for 30 years. They have one son, Zachary. He’s 25, a commercial airline pilot. They have one cat, Cooper, who’s a big part of their family.

Debbie loves spending quality time with her family. As Zachary was growing up, they always enjoyed family night. They would play board games, watch old episodes of the Andy Griffith show, etc., and these nights became Debbie's favorite memories.

Debbie believes that when God blesses us with a wonderful family, it is a precious gift we should never take for granted. Her father passed away eighteen years ago, and she misses him every day. She is still blessed to have her mother and never lets a day go by without telling any of her family that she loves them.
